Het Britse muziekblad NME nam contact op met Bring Me The Horizon zanger Oliver Sykes nadat Coldplay de albumcover van hun aankomende plaat had vrijgegeven.

Zowel de plaat A Head Full of Dreams van Coldplay en Bring Me The Horizon’s Sempiternal bevatten het geometrische patroon the flower of life. Veel BMTH fans beschuldigen Chris Martin en kompanen er van dat ze de cover van de band van Sykes gekopieerd hebben.

Oliver komt aanvankelijk sceptisch over maar gaat zich er niet druk om maken:

“I’ve no idea, at the end of the day it’s not our symbol, it’s a very old symbol. They might not have known at first, but obviously if you google ‘flower of life’ the first thing that comes up is ‘Bring Me The Horizon – Sempiternal’, it’s like, if you Google the images, someone’s gonna have said something to them, so whether it was intentional or not, it is the same.

It’s not ours, it’s kind of cool really, it’s a cool thing that a band that big are also gonna be sharing that with people. (…) I’m not like a superstitious person but I kind of am in a way, I kind of enjoy thinking like that even though I don’t one hundred per cent believe… I guess I enjoy that kind of coincidence and all that stuff so that symbol was just something that I guess just started cropping up a lot and that’s one thing that how I met my wife now.”

De nieuwe plaat van Coldplay komt uit op 4 december 2015. Sempiternal van Bring Me the Horizon verscheen in het voorjaar van 2013.
