The xx deelt album details

Het heeft even geduurd, maar The xx heeft eindelijk een opvolger voor het in 2012 uitgebrachte Coexist aangekondigd. Het Britse trio laat via Facebook weten in januari met een nieuwe plaat te komen.

Het derde album van de band heet I See You en verschijnt officieel op 13 januari 2017, via Young Turks. Check de albumcover en tracklist hieronder. Tevens heeft The xx het eerste voorproefje online gezet. De track heet “On Hold” en bevat een sample van “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” van Hall & Oats uit 1981.

De band hoopt dat in deze onzekere tijden hun muziek een klein beetje vreugde de wereld in kan helpen: “We realise these are uncertain times and we hope the joy and love we found making the record will find its way out into the world, in however small a way.”

In een gesprek met Beats 1 Radio geeft zangeres Romy Madley-Croft toe dat de band flink uit hun comfort-zone is gestapt voor de opname van de nieuwe plaat:

“We let go of any sort of rules we had for ourselves before. In the beginning, we wanted to make sure everything was always playable live, and because, honestly, we couldn’t insert our instruments very well on the first album, because we wanted to make sure we played it live, things were more minimal and spacious, that was our limitation.”

“We wanted to open the windows and be like, let’s try completely new things, let’s get out of our comfort songs, which as more introverted people, our comfort zone is quite a small place, so just getting out there and meeting new people, going to places we didn’t know and recording there, and sharing the music.”
