Wings gitarist Henry McCullough overleden

Gitarist voor Paul McCartney and the Wings, Henry McCullough is gisteren ochtend (14 juni) overleden. Hij werd 72 jaar oud.

McCullough was in het begin van de jaren ’70 onderdeel van Paul McCartney and the Wings. In deze periode werkte hij o.a. aan “My Love” en het iconische James Bond intro “Live and Let Die”. Naast zijn periode bij the Wings werkte Henry als sessie muzikant voor Joe Cocker, Marianne Faithfull en meer. Zo is zijn stem bijvoorbeeld te horen aan het eind van Pink Floyd’s “Money”, op het album Dark Side of the Moon uit 1973: “I don’t know. I was really drunk at the time”.

Paul McCartney heeft in een statement zijn rouw bekend:

“I was very sad to hear that Henry McCullough, our great Wings guitarist, passed away today. He was a pleasure to work with, a super-talented musician with a lovely sense of humour. The solo he played on ‘My Love’ was a classic that he made up on the spot in front of a live orchestra. Our deepest sympathies from my family to his.”
