Dave Mustaine eert overleden drummer

Tijdens een festival in New York heeft Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine een moment stilte ingelast om de recent overleden drummer Nick Menza te herdenken. De drummer speelde in de jaren ’90 bij Megadeth en viel in 2004 tijdelijk terug in die rol.

Voor het spelen van het nummer “Trust” vroeg Dave om een moment stilte in ere van Menza:

“Just for one second, I want you to dig deep inside of yourself and and listen. Last night, one of my best friends in the world passed away. Before we go any further, I would just like to ask you – please – for a moment of silence. We’re gonna be dedicating this next song to Nick Menza. I don’t know if you know this or not, but Nick went to heavy metal heaven last night…”

Ook heeft de Megadeth zanger een uitgebreid statement online gezet waarin hij zijn rouw betuigt. Zo wordt Nick geprezen door zijn drumtalent en persoonlijkheid:

“As a player, Nick had a very powerful jazzy flair, unpredictable and always entertaining, and as great a drummer as he was, the time spent with him as a person, a bandmate, and a friend was even more fun. There were several times we discussed him coming back to the band, but for various reasons it never came together. We’ve been in touch all along, he had come out to our shows recently, and he had remained a great friend, a true professional and a larger than life personality. The Megadeth family take care of each other, and expect to hear soon about an initiative to help Nick’s children. All of us in this community are connected, take care of yourself and your loved ones. My deepest condolences go out to Nick’s family.”
