Iron Maiden is bevestigd als headliner op de 2016 editie van het Download Festival. Op de site is te zien dat de heavy-metal veteranen het festival op zondag 12 juni af zullen sluiten.

Tot nu toe is dit de enige bekende naam voor het festival wat jaarlijks plaats vindt in het Britse Donnington. Volgens de countdown op de site zal vandaag de tweede headliner bekend gemaakt worden.

Bruce Dickingson zegt over het festival:

“Download is a very special place for us. Not just because it’s always great to play on home turf but because there’s a truly unique vibe there, it’s the very heart of England and of Metal, so a fitting place for Iron Maiden!
The crowd is always fiercely passionate and the whole band feeds off that famous Donnington energy. We aim to deliver a really memorable show for our fans to close the 2016 Festival. Although this is our sixth time headlining at Castle Donnington, it’s the first time we’ve been able to land Ed Force One right on the doorstep.”

In 2013 stond de band ook als headliner op het Download festival. Op 4 september kwam het meest recente album van Iron Maiden uit: The Book of Souls. Op 8 juni staat de band in het GelreDome in Arnhem.
