Wie kent deze band niet? Metro Station is een elektropop/ synthpop band uit Los Angeles, Verenigde Staten. De band staat onder contract bij Columbia Records/Red Ink Records sinds eind 2006. Onder veel alternatieve mensen was de band al langer bekent voordat hun nummer ‘Shake It’ op de radio en in de hitlijsten kwam. Het nummer ‘Kelsey’ is sinds deze week ook op de radio te horen. Het gaat erg goed met de band, nu ze in veel landen steeds bekender worden. Ze hebben laatst zelfs de videoclip van nummer ‘Kelsey’ opnieuw opgenomen en helemaal veranderd. Wij kregen de kans om ze te interviewen en die hebben we zeker niet voorbij laten gaan.
How did you guys know each other before you started the band?
Mason and Trace met each other because both of their siblings were casted on Hannah Montana. They started writing songs together and met Blake on MySpace. Anthony joined Metro Station 6 months after the band was formed through mutual friends.
What was your reason for naming the band ‘Metro Station’?
Mason was driving through Hollywood and saw a sign for the Metro Station. They came up with a bunch of band names but Metro Station was the name that Trace, Mason and Blake liked the most.
What is the band’s biggest inspiration?
One of the bands biggest influences was The Postal Service.
What is it like to tour with big names like Cobra Starship, Panic at the Disco and Good Charlotte?
Touring with Good Charlotte was the best. Benji, Joel, Paul, Billy & Dean are the most down to earth guys. They took us out to dinner, bought us gifts and even sang with us on stage. That was a great tour.
Your song ‘shake it’ has been in hitlists of many countries, including in the Netherlands. How does it feel to be popular in so many countries?
I guess it really hit us when we started hearing our music in stores and seeing our video on tv in the vs and other countries. It’s a bit surreal for us.
What’s the weirdist thing a fan ever did?
One time this girl just walked on our bus locked herself in the bathroom and did her makeup for hours. We had to force the door open and kick her out. Really weird.
A question for Trace: What’s it like to be Miley’s half brother?
It’s cool. (Dutchscene: Droog antwoord, haha)
Are there any bands that you can compare yourself with?
We’re very influenced by 80′s music like The Cure, Depeche Mode, OMD, etc… But when the band first formed the biggest influence was the Postal Service.
In what aspects can you compare American fans and European fans?
They are both great, but European fans go a bit crazier.
What can we expect from Metro Station in 2010?
A new album and a new tour. The music will remain the same. We all love pop music and don’t wanna change our sound ever.
In 2009 you gave a concert in the Amsterdam Melkweg during your European tour. Do you have plans on visiting the Netherlands again in the near future?
We hope to go back there early next year. We love Amsterdam.

Ja klopt. Maar Metro Station was over het algemeen al langer bekend onder de alternatieve scene, zegmaar.. En ze hebben het nummer nu opnieuw uitgebracht.

Tof interview, er moeten wel nog wat aanpassingen in het taalgebruik gedaan worden! Wel de juiste vragen gesteld, ga zo door zouden wij zo zeggen!

super cool dat ze zo populair worden,, ze verdienen het zeker.. ik ben al best wel lang fan van ze.. ze hebben een soort simpelheid in hun muziek wat het super relaxed maakt, en toch niet saai. het is heel moeilijk om op die manier nrs. te maken (I would know) maar ze doen het echt super!
