I Haunt Wizards

Zoals van te voren aangekondigd hadden wij een interview met de geweldige Britse band “I Haunt Wizards”. We hadden ook bij het interview een aantal nummers van het album geleverd gekregen waar we heel erg positief over zijn! Goed afgemixt, vrolijke geluidjes muziek die je gewoon de hele avond aan kan zetten. Met meer dan 3.000.000 plays op myspace in 2008 was de band al aardig ver op weg naar de bekendheid maar eindelijk is het zo ver. De band wilt graag met hun tour in Amsterdam komen en aan het begin van 2010 kunnen we met z’n allen genieten van hun nieuwe album.

Busy with a debut album, asked to remix “Diamonds Aren’t Forever” from Bring me the horizon and getting more famous everyday, how does that feel?
It’s great, I feel honoured that so many people take an interest in what we do. Especially since our music is simply a result of us sitting in a room with a microphone, a couple synths and some coffee! I hope we can continue doing this forever!

You’re mixing 80’s music with a bit of techno and happy tunes, why especially the 80’s?
80′s pop culture has always struck a particular chord with us. I think music was so much better in that era, perhaps because of it’s strong focus on instrumentation rather than just the vocal. Afterall – vocals are only one ‘instrument’ in a song. I love how you can put on a classic janet jackson record and sometimes her vocal wont even come in until 2 minutes into the track. The production on 80′s records is fantastic, those guys go crazy on their synths.

In the Netherlands I haunt wizards is not so famous, but we’re sure that will change in a few months! If you could perform in the Netherlands, which place would it be?
We hear that Amsterdam has some great venues.

You all have a great taste of humour, large bulletins on myspace full of bullshit! How do we know when the band is serious?
I think that in order to connect with your fans, you need your personality to shine through – just like when you connect with anybody. We have a good sense of humour and so do our listeners, i think it’s great to be able to share it. Blink 182 is also an example of a band who use humour to connect with their fans. It’s uplifting, Life is too short to take everything seriously. I like to think our serious side is evident in our songs and lyrics. We take songwriting and producing very seriously. I like to think our music speaks for itself, regardless of our personality/humour.

The debut album is coming early 2010 with 18 tracks on it including “Along came polly”, can you tell us the album date?!
We havent decided what the date of release is yet, however it will be in 2010, as soon as we know, we will inform everyone. We are writing new songs everyday for the rest of 2009 and only the very best will make the tracklisting.

Most of time, when a band records a new album they are going on tour will IHW do that too?
Yes of course, and as much as possible. Hopefully we will reach the America and Holland if you will have us!!.

I haunt wizards, what the fuck is that for a name?! Where does it stand for?
It is inspired by the nostalgia and the vibe of an early 90’s PC game called “Hocus Pocus” which we used to play everyday as a kid.

Do you have anything left to say to the (new) Dutch fans?!
